1.0 Introduction Recent years have seen an increase in the number of devices with differing communication, compute and display capabilities. Increasingly, services need to interact with a wide spectrum of devices with varying networking capabilities. In most cases, services and the functions that they perform are independent of the transports deployed for communications. Furthermore, given the scale and the variety of devices that services need to interact with, services are usually hosted on a distributed messaging infrastructure. It is thus entirely conceivable that a message would traverse multiple hops (possibly over different underlying transports) en route to its final destinations.
